Fibromyalgia is a syndrome which includes a group of symptoms in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Many people with fibromyalgia often suffer from depression, fatigue and emotional imbalances due to the enormous impact this disease has on their life. Their are both physical and psychological impacts with fibromyalgia, that often lead to limited physical activity, and decreased ability to work.
The most common complaints associated with fibromyalgia include: muscle pain and stiffness, muscle twitches, crippling fatigue, sleep disturbances, chronic headaches, difficulty concentrating, depression and other mood disturbances, abdominal pain, anxiety, dryness in the eyes, mouth and nose, hypersensitivity to heat and cold, and irritable bowel syndrome.
Fibromyalgia is the second most common musculoskeletal condition following osteoarthritis; yet it remains very difficult to diagnose. This is due in part to the fact that there is no laboratory test to confirm fibromyalgia, so doctors must rely on your medical history and a physical exam. Doctors must also rule out other illnesses that have similar symptoms first. The fact that there are so many symptoms associated with the disease, and not everyone experiences all of them also complicates diagnosis. Women are more likely than men to get fibromyalgia.
At Priority Health and Wellness we have helped patients with fibromyalgia. If you suffer from fibromyalgia our doctors can help reduce your pain symptoms and increase your range of motion. A chiropractic adjustment can also help decrease subluxations and in turn help balance out your nervous system.
